The face of The Walking Dead's newest villain, Alpha (Samantha Morton), was previously revealed through key art, but that was just a still image. And she won't make her official debut as the leader of the Whisperers until the show returns for the second half of Season 9 in February. But we're finally getting to see her put on her Ed Gein-ass dead skin mask thanks to a new teaser released via Entertainment Weekly. Alexa, play "Mask Off."
In the teaser, we see the steps that go into the creation of a Whisperer mask, from peeling the skin off a dead body and sewing on seams to make sure it's tight enough to holding it up to the light to really make the creepiness pop and finally putting it on. Adding to the creep factor is a soundtrack featuring a tinkling nursery rhyme-style song that starts "whisper, whisper, whisper in the garden" and warps and degrades as it goes on.
The Whisperers are iconic Walking Dead comic book villains who wear skin suits and live amongst the zombies. They'll be played by Morton, Sons of Anarchy's Ryan Hurst and others.
The Walking Dead Season 9 returns Sunday, Feb. 10 at 9/8c on AMC.
