Could she portray the governess?

The Haunting of Bly Manormight take audiences far away from Hill House in both geographical and temporal respects, but there may be at least one original cast member who makes the long journey to the show's new location. Carla Gugino, who portrayed the troubled matriarch Olivia Crain in The Haunting of Hill House, has revealed that she is currently in talks with show creator Mike Flanagan to star in the second season of his now-anthology series.

Gugino spoke to The Wrap about the show's future and explained, "I can't say anything definitive at this point, other than Mike and I really love collaborating and working together and any opportunity where a schedule allows for us to do that, we will, and I would be honored to." Before Hill House, Gugino had previously worked with Flanagan on another Netflix original, as she carried most of the action for his adaptation of Stephen King's Gerald's Game.

The Book Behind The Haunting of Bly Manor Proves It'll Be Just as Creepy as Hill House

"So we're talking a lot about it and we'll just see if all schedules allow," Gugino continued. "All I can say is I'm very excited for Season 2 and to see what Mike does."

There have been hints that Flanagan might choose to go the way of theAmerican Horror Story franchise and give some of those original stars new characters to play with in the coming season(s); previously, actor Oliver Jackson-Cohen told The Wrap that he couldn't confirm one way or the other if he'd be appearing in Bly Manor. And Flanagan is known to create room for actors he'd worked with in the past in his current projects -- count Gugino, Elizabeth Reaser, Henry Thomas, Annabeth Gish, Lulu Wilson, Samantha Sloyan, and his real-life wife Kate Siegel as the Hill House stars he'd previously directed -- so it wouldn't be a surprise for some of the Hill House originals to be included in the Bly Manor call sheet.

The Haunting of Bly Manor will be an adaptation of Henry James' 1898 horror novella The Turn of the Screw. The new season is expected to premiere on Netflix in 2020.
