Do you need something to watch on Netflix? Here are our recommendations for the best new shows and movies on Netflix this week.

While this week looks relatively light for Netflix with "only" 11 releases this week (compared to last week's 14), it's heavy in options you should actually watch. In fact, I never thought I'd say this given those Adam Sandler movies, but the movie slate this week looks fantastic. Add in what looks like one of Netflix's best new series of the year, and this is a week that will keep you busy.

Let's go through all the Netflix releases, shall we? And if you're looking for even more hand-picked recommendations, click over to our Watch This Now! page.

(All titles are out Friday, Oct. 12 unless specified otherwise.)

The Biggest and Best Releases

The Haunting of Hill House, Season 1
If you're one of those people who sleeps too much, boy do I have the solution for you! Stay awake wide-eyed in perma-terror after bingeing Netflix's new series The Haunting of Hill House, which sets a new bar for television horror. It's based on the Shirley Jackson novel and follows a family in two timelines -- one in the past as they live inside a haunted house, and one in present day when they realize the terrors of the house haven't really left them. What makes the show truly great is that it's not just scary; it's a scintillating family drama as well.

The Haunting of Hill House Review: Netflix's Horror Series Is a Provocative Examination of Isolation and Belonging

The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell, Season 1
Reddit star and spiritual spawn of Elvira Christine McConnell shows off her batty baking skills in this goth cooking show that is a mix of Pee-Wee's Playhouse and Tales from the Crypt. She'll show you how to make things (which you won't make because they're hecka complex), but there are also scripted bits with her and a mummy cat, a raccoon with a bow, a maybe werewolf and other creatures. Seriously, watch the trailer. It looks kinda good! (Trailer)

ReMastered, Season 1
Love music documentaries and true-crime documentaries? How about something that's a bit of both? ReMastered explores high-profile events involving some of the most famous musicians in history, with each episode covering a new unsolved mystery or history-making event. First up is "Who Shot the Sheriff?," a look at the shooting of Bob Marley, and subsequent episodes -- released monthly -- will examine Johnny Cash's visit with Richard Nixon, the murder of Run DMC's Jam Master Jay, and the curse of blues guitarist Robert Johnson. Movies! Movies! Movies!

The Kindergarten Teacher
Maggie Gyllenhaal stars as a teacher to tots who recognizes she might be in the presence of a child prodigy, and she kind of gets creepy obsessed with unlocking his potential. Despite the wishes of the kid's parents. Despite the levels of understood appropriateness of a teacher. Despite all sense of moral goodness. It's a unique thriller with an indie veneer, and Gyllenhaal is her usual fabulous self.

Apostle
This movie looks bonkers AF. Legion's Dan Stevens stars in this Wicker Man-esuqe film set in 1905 about a man who travels to a remote island to rescue his sister from a religious cult that's really into spilling blood with all kinds of dastardly contraption. It comes from The Raid mastermind Gareth Evans, so expect things to be intense. (Trailer)

Everything Else

Salt Fat Acid Heat
Based on the best-selling cookbook of the same name, Salt Fat Acid Heat spends each of its four episodes focused on one of the titular pillars of cooking that are right there in the title. But rather than just show you food porn, chef and host Samin Nosrat goes deep into the basics to make you understand their importance. This is the foodie show for people who like to cook. (Thursday, Oct. 11)

The Boss Baby: Back in Business
Good lord, has it really come to this? (But don't kid yourself, the movie slaps and the show's pretty strong too.) (Trailer)

Here Are the 100 Best Shows Right Now

Errementari: The Blacksmith and the Devil
The spooks continue for Netflix in October with this 2017 fantasy-horror movie based on Basque folklore. I won't pretend to know exactly what's going on, but from what I can gather, a blacksmith in a wooded town may be holding the Devil hostage and things go south when a young girl accidentally sets the Cloven One loose. This looks like something Guillermo del Toro may have made. (Trailer)

Feminists: What Were They Thinking?
Before you loser macho men get excited about this, know that the title contains irony. The very pro-feminism documentary highlights the women's movement of the 1970s and the steps made that paved the way for how the world has changed today. Except in Washington, D.C., apparently. (Trailer)

Fightworld, Series 1
No, this isn't the worst theme park ever. It's a documentary series that answers the question "Why on Earth would someone get in a ring with someone who wants to punch their nose through their face?" Actor and fighter Frank Grillo goes all over the world to discover the love of beating the snot out of another person. (Trailer)

Tarzan and Jane, Season 2
The monkey man returns in this animated series that appears to have the animation quality of Paw Patrol on an off day. (Trailer)

The Seven Deadly Sins: Revival of the Commandments, Season 3
Pure, one million percent anime about a princess who tries to win back her kingdom from a group of evil knights. At least that's what the description says, I couldn't tell what this was about from the trailer at all. (Monday, Oct. 15 / Trailer)

Ron White: If You Quit Listening, I'll Shut Up
Hard drinking Southern showman Ron White brings his down home comedy and a bottle of whiskey to the stage in this stand-up special. (Tuesday, Oct. 16 / Trailer)
