The stakes are even higher for Sheila (Drew Barrymore) and Joel (Timothy Olyphant) when Santa Clarita Dietreturns for Season 2 on Friday, March 23.

Picking up right where we left off in the Season 1 finale, the new season kicks things into high gear with the Hammonds juggling more than just their marriage, raising a teen daughter and Sheila's zombification. This time, they'll also carry the weight of the world on their shoulders as they try to prevent what has happened to suburban mom Sheila from spreading to other families.

"This year, it's not just save the marriage, save the family," Olyphant explained to TV Guide. "It's, at the same time, big picture."

That big picture includes working to figure out what exactly caused Sheila to become the walking undead in the first place. Though we don't know if they'll actually solve the zombie mystery, Olyphant did say the couple will at least start to uncover some much-needed answers.

"We really do try to get to the bottom, and start to get to the bottom, of how this happened and can we stop it from happening to others," he said. However, it looks like their plan will go off the rails somewhere along the way.

"It goes crazy," added Barrymore.

The new season, which promises to be even more comically bizarre than the first, will also feature cameos by Joel McHale, Andy Richter and Maggie Lawson.

Season 2 of Santa Clarita Diet heads to Netflix on Friday, March 23.
