Sandra Oh Makes History with Killing Eve Emmy Nomination

Sandra Oh received her sixth Emmy nomination Thursday morning, and she also made history.

After five previous nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for Grey's Anatomy, Oh nabbed her first nomination for lead actress for BBC America's Killing Eve. She's the first woman of Asian descent to do so. That sounds crazy, right? However, the Emmys have a pretty white history.

Only one Latina woman has ever been nominated in the category -- Rita Moreno, in 1979, for The Rockford Files -- and only six black women. How to Get Away with Murder's Viola Davis was the first woman of color to win an Emmy for Lead Actress in a Drama Series, in 2015.

Oh is also the only woman of color nominated in the category this year. Her fellow nominees are Claire Foy (The Crown), Keri Russell (The Americans), Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black), Evan Rachel Wood (Westworld), and last year's winner, Elisabeth Moss(The Handmaid's Tale).

She wasn't the only person to make history in this year's Emmy nominations, though. Game of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage received his seventh nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, making him the most nominated actor in the category. If he wins, he will tie Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul with three wins apiece.
