NOT SO SAFE BETTE

Bette Midler has finally gotten her wish: CBS has pulled the plug on her struggling sitcom Bette. According to Variety, the show's final original episode — which ironically marks the debut of Airplane's Robert Hays as Midler's new husband — is slated to air Wednesday night. Despite winning numerous accolades (including the TV Guide Award for Actress of the Year in a New Series), Midler has been publicly complaining about the grind of a weekly series. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Times reports that the WB's Eddie Murphy co-created animated series The PJs will not return next season.
