With American Idol on the eve of whittling down to the final four, an average of 20.55 million viewers tuned in for Wednesday's 90-minute performance show. It also averaged a 6.4 rating among 18-to-49-year-olds — down 10 percent from last week.
Immediately following Idol, Breaking In had 7.25 million tuning in (down slightly from last week's 7.61) and a 2.5 demo rating (up 4 percent).
In prime time's first hour, CBS' Survivor: Redemption Island attracted 10.66 million people vs. fresh episodes of ABC's The Middle (7.14 million viewers at 8/7c) and Better With You (5.50 million at 8:30, keeping itself teetering on the bubble), NBC's Minute to Win It (3.38 million) and a repeat of the CW's America's Next Top Model (1.15 million).
At 9/8c, a new Criminal Minds attracted 12.82 million viewers. A fresh Modern Family on ABC had a viewership of 9.64 million, followed by a new Cougar Town at 9:30 with 5.56 million. A Minute rerun had 3.41 million, while a new Model lured 1.86 million.
CBS' Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior took the last hour of prime time, getting 8.75 million compared with 8.31 million for Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (with John Stamos as a guest star) and 3.66 million for Happy Endings.
