Question: Do you recall a show called Not Necessarily the News? I remember watching it sometime in the early '80s, and that it was mostly political satire &#224 la The Daily Show. I am almost certain that it was on cable, but no one else seems to remember it or know what I am talking about. Can you help me? — Joi, New Orleans Televisionary: Of course I can, Joi. Not Necessarily the News was a current-events spoof that ran on HBO from January 1983 to August 1990. Sort of a longer-form "Weekend Update," it goofed on, as the name implies, the news and was based on the British Not the Nine O'Clock News. Regulars included such names as Mitchell Laurance, Rich Hall, Annabelle Gurwitch and Stuart Pankin.
