QUALITY TV IS DEAD

Viewers for Quality Television, the 16-year-old non-profit group that championed the best of TV, will close up shop due to declining membership and scarce funds. "Rather than let the organization become a shadow of its former self... we thought it was better to stop now and be remembered with the credibility that we worked so hard for the organization to have," founder Dorothy Collins Swanson told The Associated Press. Swanson's efforts to save the cop drama Cagney & Lacey led to VQT's formation in 1984.
