The TV gold rush will start earlier this year. The 61st Primetime Emmy Awards has been rescheduled to Sunday, Sept. 13, a week earlier than the original date, CBS announced.
The move was made to accommodate an NFL doubleheader scheduled for Sept. 20 as CBS wanted to avoid any overlap.
"This is better for the live event, the broadcast and our audience at home," said Jack Sussman, CBS' executive vice president of specials.
The original Emmy broadcast date was selected before the NFL released its 2009-10 television schedule. The ceremony typically airs in mid-September, but has been shuffled around before. In 2006, the awards aired in August to make way for NBC's Sunday Night Football in September. (The Emmys rotate between the Big Four networks.)
Nominations will be announced July 16.
