Mona's Chess Boyfriend Is Not the Romance She Deserves on The Perfectionists

Also, we expected something a little more exciting from an episode titled "Dead Week"

Andrea Reiher

After the excitement of last week's Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists, the show kind of took the week off, presumably before it makes the big push toward the finale. Still, we expected something a little more exciting from an episode titled "Dead Week." Not a single person died! The show did, however, lean heavily into one suspect.

The Suspects

The focus this week was almost entirely on Dana Booker (Klea Scott), whom the trio think is behind everything -- killing Nolan (Chris Mason), trying to kill Taylor (Hayley Erin), torturing them with their secrets and running Caitlin (Sydney Park) down with a car. After Alison (Sasha Pieterse) and Mona (Janel Parrish) made some "A" jokes at Dana's expense, the trio began to refer to her that way, which almost guarantees that Booker will be 100 percent innocent. In fact, it wouldn't be a huge shock if someone kills her between now and the finale. "A" was never who the Liars thought she was at first glance.

Dana has certainly been menacing toward the trio, but it feels more like she's just trying to be good at her job so Mrs. Hotchkiss (Kelly Rutherford) doesn't fire her.

The Perfectionists' Sasha Pieterse and Janel Parrish Are Good at Covering Up Murder but Better at Jenga

Instead, there has to be someone else lurking around who knows all the secrets. Zach (Garrett Wareing) was back this week, though he might be more of a love interest for Ava (Sofia Carson) than a villain. But one person we haven't talked about yet is Jeremy (Graeme Thomas King), Caitlin's secret boyfriend. He seems like a nice guy, but there is also something very slick about him. Nobody even mentioned the crazy pig-man from last week, which was weird, but maybe it was Jeremy? He might have some history with the Hotchkiss family we don't yet know about.

Also, make a note that Andrew (Evan Bittencourt) is back in Dylan's (Eli Brown) life. He seems less suspicious than most people, but you never know. It's always the quiet ones on shows like these.

Alison & Mona

Meanwhile, the "Nolan" that Mona saw breaking into her apartment on Beacon Guard left her some cupcakes that spell out "can we be pals" and include a couple of doll eyes. Mona used the Beacon Guard in Taylor's RV to track the person using its gait analyzing program. Beacon Guard led Mona to Dana -- but again, there's no way it's her. Please, please, please let Mona's stalker turn out to be Alex Drake (Troian Bellisario). That would be amazing.

Speaking of stalkers, Mona also found out who she's been playing chess with. It turned out to be Mason (Noah Gray-Cabey), which is not a huge surprise, but it is a little bit of a letdown. He doesn't seem nefarious at all anymore; he actually seems more like a love interest for Mona now, which is kind of odd. Wouldn't the university have a policy against that? But yeah, it would have been fun if Mona's chess partner was actually someone out to get her.

Meanwhile, Taylor agreed to help Alison figure out who killed Nolan now that she's officially "alive" again. She also decided it was time to face the music and move back into her family's house.

More thoughts on this episode

- Definitely not the most exciting episode of The Perfectionists so far. Fingers crossed the show gets back to the crazy next week -- and that someone mentions the pig-man again because it's like they forgot all about it.

- One good thing to come out of this episode, though, is that Dylan finally did something interesting. He couldn't play the cello right now because of the nerve damage to his hand from overextending himself. So he recorded his cello solo for class off of a record and submitted it as his own and of course "A" knows about it. No, I don't think "A" is Dana, but there is definitely an "A" out there and now he or she has something serious on Dylan.

- Mona: "I stole Taylor's RV and hid it in the woods ... it's like a mini Beacon Guard!"
Alison: "Mona, I've seen the camper. It's junk!"
Mona: "Remember that underground dollhouse I was trapped in? It looked like a bunker from the outside."
Ava: "OK, we have to google these guys."

- Dana claimed that a teenager turned himself in for Caitlin's car accident, but his name is sealed because he's a minor. That was really the only truly fishy thing Dana was up to this episode. She still doesn't seem like the one who ran Caitlin over, though.

Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on Freeform.
