At the launch of her new animal rights organization at the Cannes Film Festival on Friday, Pamela Anderson revealed to the audience that she was sexually abused as a child, Britain's Daily Mail reports.

The Baywatch actress told the crowd of about 200 people that she was molested by a female babysitter beginning at the age of six.

Anderson, 46, said she had her "first heterosexual" experience at age 12, when she was raped by the 25-year-old brother of a friend's boyfriend. And in her teens, Anderson told the audience, she was gang-raped by a boyfriend. "He decided it would be funny to gang rape me with six friends," she said, according to the Mail. "I wanted off this earth."

It's unclear what prompted Anderson to make the revelations on Friday; however, she noted that her love of animals "saved me" in the aftermath of the abuse.

Anderson attended the launch of The Pamela Anderson Foundation with her husband, Rick Salomon.
