NBC's Fall 2019-2020 TV Lineup: What You Need to Know

Once again, NBC's fall lineup will be pretty Dick heavy.

The network's longstanding relationship with producer Dick Wolf remains fully intact with Law & Order: Special Victims Unit renewed for a groundbreaking 21st season. This year, the Mariska Hargitay-led series will make history when it surpasses Bonanza and predecessor Law & Order to become the longest-running, live-action drama on TV. Meanwhile, Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago P.D. will continue to bring the heat in the Windy City after securing new seasons. One Chicago will see a bit of a shakeup, however, with P.D.'s Jon Seda and Med's Colin Donnell and Norma Kuhling exiting as series regulars ahead of the shows' fall premieres.

NBC also renewed renewed This Is Us for three more seasons, taking the drama through Season 6 and ensuring audiences plenty more time with the Pearsons. And Manifest will return to deliver even more twists in its sophomore season -- but fans are going to have to wait a little while; it won't return until midseason.

Other shows coming back for new seasons include the Will & Grace revival, the James Spader-fronted crime drama The Blacklist, and Mike Schur's forking great comedy The Good Place. Plus, after saving fellow Schur hit Brooklyn Nine-Nine from cancellation last year, the network has given the go-ahead for a seventh season. Blindspot will also return for a fifth and final season. And for you reality buffs, America's Got Talent: The Champions and World of Dance will both be back.

But not every show earned a renewal. Trial & Errorand Midnight, Texas were both canceled after their second seasons, and NBC axed four freshman series: I Feel Bad, Abby's, The Village, and The Enemy Within. Helping to fill in the gaps these cancellations left are new shows including Council of Dads, a cancer drama that will likely pair well with This Is Us; Bluff City Law; Saturday Night Live stalwart Kenan Thompson's The Kenan Show; and Sunnyside.

Bluff City Law
Logline: A character-driven legal drama that follows the lawyers of an elite Memphis law firm that specializes in the most controversial landmark civil rights cases. Led by legendary lawyer Elijah Strait (Jimmy Smits) and his brilliant daughter, Sydney Keller (Caitlin McGee), they take on the toughest David-and-Goliath cases while navigating their complicated relationship.

Council of Dads
Logline: Based on Bruce Feiler's memoir of the same name, the drama revolves around a father whose life is thrown into upheaval when he is diagnosed with a terminal illness. Facing his mortality, he and his wife assemble a group of friends to support his family and guide them through life's challenges.

Lincoln
Logline: Inspired by the best-selling book The Bone Collector, former NYPD detective and forensic genius Lincoln Rhyme was at the top of his game until a serious accident at the hands of a notorious serial killer forces him out of the field. When Amelia Sachs, an intuitive young officer who's got her own gift for profiling finds herself hot on the killer's trail, Rhyme in turn finds a partner for this new game of cat and mouse. As the unlikely detective duo joins forces to crack the city's most confounding cases, they must also race to take down the enigmatic "Bone Collector" who brought them together.

Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist
Logline: In this joyous and celebratory drama, Zoey Clarke is a whip-smart computer coder forging her way in San Francisco. After an unusual event she starts to hear the innermost wants and desires of the people around her through songs. At first, she questions her own sanity but soon realizes this unwanted curse may just be an incredibly wonderful gift.

Comedies

Indebted
Logline: Young parents Dave and Rebecca are ready to reclaim their life after years of diapers and sleepless nights. However, things take an unexpected turn when Dave's parents show up unannounced and broke, leaving Dave with no choice but to open the door to the people who gave him everything. But these boomerang parents aren't great with boundaries and the question of who's parenting who quickly become blurred in this multi-generational comedy starring Fran Drescher and Adam Pally as mother and son.

The Kenan Show
Logline: In this family comedy, Kenan Thompson strives to be a super dad to his two adorable girls while simultaneously balancing his job and a father-in-law who "helps" in the most inappropriate ways.

Sunnyside
Logline: Revolves around Garrett Shah (Kal Penn), a former New York city councilman, who finds his calling when faced with immigrants in need of his help and in search of the American Dream.

Perfect Harmony
Logline: Bradley Whitford stars in this comedy about finding inspiration in the most unlikely places. When former Princeton music professor Arthur Cochran unexpectedly stumbles into choir practice at a small-town church, he finds a group of singers that are out of tune in more ways than one. Despite the ultimate clash of sensibilities, Arthur and his newfound cohorts may just be the perfect mix of individuals to help each other reinvent and rediscover a little happiness, just when they all need it most.
