British actor Sir John Mills, who snagged an Oscar in 1971 for his portrayal of a mute village idiot in Ryan's Daughter, died Saturday of a chest infection. He was 97. Mills, whose distinguished career spanned 70 years, was also father to actresses Hayley Mills ( Pollyanna, The Parent Trap ) and Juliet Mills, who plays Passions' Tabitha.
