Grammy-winning conductor and New York Pops founder Skitch Henderson died on Tuesday of natural causes. He was 87. After getting his big break filling in for a pianist touring with Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney in 1937, Henderson went on to play for Bob Hope's The Pepsodent Show, was mentored by Bing Crosby, and, after serving in World War II, was named bandleader for Steve Allen's Tonight Show, a post he would continue to hold under hosts Jack Paar and Johnny Carson.... Michael Piller, the creator of such series as Star Trek: Voyager, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and The Dead Zone, died Tuesday after a long battle with cancer. He was 57.
