Atwood dropped the news Monday that she's working on a followup to her celebrated novel, titled The Testaments, which takes place a decade and a half after Offred's final moments in the original book. "Everything you've ever asked me about Gilead and its inner workings is the inspiration for this book. Well, almost everything!" she teased.
She also revealed that the new book was inspired by the current world we live in and will feature narration from three different female characters. No word yet on whose perspective we'll follow in the sequel but here's hoping Testaments addresses exactly what led to Gilead's downfall and the world we glimpsed in the epilogue. Inquiring minds need to know!
Look out for the book in Sept. 2019.
In the meantime, you can stream the first two seasons of Hulu's adaption of The Handmaid's Tale now. Season 3, which will be more "rebellious" than the first two, is expected to arrive sometime in 2019.
Yes indeed to those who asked: I'm writing a sequel to The #HandmaidsTale. #TheTestaments is set 15 years after Offred's final scene and is narrated by three female characters. It will be published in Sept 2019. More details: https://t.co/e1umh5FwpX pic.twitter.com/pePp0zpuif— Margaret E. Atwood (@MargaretAtwood) November 28, 2018
