LIVE FROM NEW YORK...

How on earth do you one-up a legacy of blatant stunt-casting your sitcom? By broadcasting it live. That's precisely what NBC's Will & Grace will do, Variety reports, when it kicks off its eighth and final season with a live telecast, currently slated for Sept. 29 and (of course) guest-starring  Alec Baldwin and Eric Stoltz. "We're going to have some very topical material," says series cocreator Max Mutchnick. Alas, using the outing to take potshots at the latest escapades of a certain headline-grabber may be off-limits. "I'm a little afraid of Tom Cruise," Mutchnick said. "He bores me." Maybe that's because you don't understand the history of psychiatry, Max; Tom does.
