Bob Geldof, the organizer of the 10 Live 8 concerts held across the world on July 2, claims that the United States, for one, sat up and took notice of the campaign. "[Live 8] has already had a huge political impact," he told reporters on Monday. "You have the American president completely talking a different language about Africa and acknowledging the concert." (OK, for one thing, Bob: George Bush and the language thing? Old news. As for his watching the concert, he was hoping to see Jessica Simpson in Daisy Dukes.) Alas for ABC, few folks acknowledged its Saturday-night highlights package, which drew a scant 2.9 million viewers. Even AOL's live online coverage beat those numbers. (And you gotta figure that includes a lot of people using dial-up.)
