Legacies' Danielle Rose Russell on How Hope's 'Death' Will Impact Season 2

Will Hope take a dark turn?

Lindsay MacDonald

Season 2 of Legacies cannot come soon enough, because we're not sure how we'll survive the entire summer waiting to find out the fate of Hope Mikaelson (Danielle Rose Russell).

In the Season 1 finale, Hope sacrificed herself to save Malivore from rising, effectively erasing herself from the memories of everyone who ever knew her. But does that mean she's dead? In Malivore? Somewhere else? Rather than wrestle with endless explanations for what happened to her, we went straight to the source to figure out what to expect from Hope's storyline when Legacies returns for Season 2.

"I think that Season 2 will definitely explore Hope's absence in this world and the impact that she does have," Danielle Rose Russell told TV Guide at the 2019 CW Upfront presentation. "I'd really love to explore her darker side a bit after jumping into Malivore. I'm sure it's taken some sort of effect on her mental psyche."

"I'd really like to see how Hope handles situations, traumatic situations, more on-screen," she added. "Because after the death of her parents, we kind of did a time jump, and we didn't really see that process, and I'd love to see that process explored a little bit more. And I'd also love to see the impact that it has on Hope and Landon (Aria Shahghasemi) because she did it for them, so it's kind of a beautiful and tragic dynamic that I'm really excited to see more of next year."

A darker side to Hope Mikaelson sounds like a totally juicy new direction for her story to head in, especially since her father is Klaus Mikaelson (Joseph Morgan), meaning there is a lot of inherited wickedness to work with. Let's just hope (pun totally intended) Landon can pull her back from that darkness eventually, because we absolutely need to see more adorable moments from this young couple; those tend to be hard to come by when one of you has gone full dark side.

Legacies will return on Thursdays this fall on The CW.
