Fans of The West Wing have spoken — and they want Jimmy Smits as their next president. According to a just-released poll, West Wing viewers prefer Jimmy Smits over Alan Alda by a margin of 2 to 1 (44 percent to 28 percent). Not surprisingly, there was a huge gender gap, with Smits outpacing Alda among women 53 percent to 22 percent. Ultimately, the decision rests with exec producer John Wells, who will choose Martin Sheen's successor next fall — provided NBC doesn't impeach the show first.
