Julianna Margulies Says The Good Fight Appearance Fell Through Because She Wasn't Paid What She's Worth

Julianna Margulies is pointing to a pay dispute as the reason she won't be seen on The Good Fight, the spin-off of her hit series The Good Wife, anytime soon.

The actress told Deadline that while she was eager to reprise her Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning role as Alicia Florrick for the CBS All Access series, she and the network couldn't see eye to eye over how much she should be paid for her appearance.

"CBS wouldn't pay me," Margulies told Deadline. "The showrunners had found a nice away to reintroduce my character, a story that was to span three episodes. I was really excited about the idea, but CBS refused to pay my (ask)."

Margulies reportedly declined to be paid a regular guest star rate for appearing on the show and said, "I'm not a guest star; I started the whole thing with The Good Wife. I wanted to be paid my worth and stand up for equal pay. If Jon Hamm came back for a Mad Men spin-off or Kiefer Sutherland wanted to do a 24spin-off, they would be paid."

CBS All Access did not immediately respond to TV Guide's request for comment.

In February, The Good Fight's co-creator Robert King revealed to Deadline that he had originally envisioned a scenario that would bring Margulies' Alicia face to face with Christine Baranski's Diane Lockhart again. "We thought maybe about making a big episode where she would be at the resistance, Diane and her face each other," he said. "But that would be the end of the story. It felt like an asterisk."

At the time, Margulies said, "I think we've put the idea to bed this time, unfortunately. I really wanted to do it."
