It'll be The Good Wife verse Desperate Housewives next fall. CBS announced last week that the legal drama is moving to Sunday night, where it will go head to head with ABC's Housewives. But The Good Wife's star, Julianna Margulies, who accepted a Peabody Award for the show on May 23, isn't worried. "At first, I was taken aback because you always think a move is a bad thing," she tells TV Guide Magazine. "Then I started thinking about it. I was like, wait, Sunday nights at 9, that was The Sopranos' spot. That's my favorite time to watch TV!" (And having guest-starred as a real estate agent on the HBO hit, Margulies knows the power of the time slot.)
As for Desperate Housewives, "I'm sure they have a built-in audience," whereas the move is an opportunity for The Good Wife, Margulies adds. "This opens up a whole new door of new kinds of people we want to watch our show. Younger people, older people — because younger people can stay up till 9 and older people can stay up till 9. So it made me really happy."
Margulies' cast mate Christine Baranski agrees that the move is a vote of confidence by the network. "I think it's a prestigious night, I think it's a thoughtful night, the night of 60 Minutes and Masterpiece Theater."
