Denzel Washington's new hostage drama John Q captured the No. 1 position at the box office over the four-day holiday weekend, grossing $24.1 million from Friday-Monday. It was the best Presidents' Day weekend opening in history. Meanwhile, despite justifiably scathing reviews, Britney Spears's big-screen debut Crossroads bowed at No. 2 with a perky $17 million. Rounding out the top five: Disney's Return to Never Land (No. 3 with $16.1 million), Big Fat Liar (No. 4 with $11.9 million) and last week's champ, Collateral Damage (No. 5 with $9.9 million). Bruce Willis's prison camp pic Hart's War opened at No. 7 with $9 million.
