Jada Pinkett Smith Jada Pinkett Smith

Jada Pinkett Smith is talking Gotham and she's got her signature weapon with her.

Based on DC Comics characters, the Batman prequel explores the origin story of James Gordon (Benjamin McKenzie), a detective with the Gotham City Police Department who battles the villains who made the city (in)famous.

Gotham won't "break the canonical iron truths" of Batman mythology

One of those scoundrels is crime boss Fish Mooney, Pinkett Smith's character who was created for the series and wields a baseball bat as her main weapon of choice.

"It gets pretty dark because Gotham is Gotham," Pinkett Smith tells us. "You're going to see what Gotham is and why we needed Batman."

Watch Pinkett Smith talk about the series, which premieres Monday, Sept. 22 at 8/7c on Fox.
