Fox's animated adventure Ice Age got a warm reception from moviegoers over the weekend. The pic debuted at No. 1 with $47.9 million, a record opening for March and the third-best bow ever for an animated film (behind Monsters, Inc. and Toy Story 2). Two other new arrivals had strong debuts: Video-game adaptation Resident Evil opened at No. 2 with $18.2 million and the Robert De Niro-Eddie Murphy knee-slapper Showtime bowed at No. 3 with $15.4 million.
