Here's How April and Arizona Said Goodbye to Grey's Anatomy

Was it a happy sendoff?

Ever since it was announced that April (Sarah Drew) and Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) would be leaving Grey's Anatomy after this season, fans have wondered how the series would bid farewell to the beloved characters. After all, they had been part of the show's core cast since Seasons 5 and 6, respectively, so it's going to be pretty weird not seeing them around Grey Sloan next season.

With their departures looming, Thursday's packed finale stuck to that time-old tradition of ending even-numbered seasons on a positive note. For April, whose potential death was teased just a few weeks ago, she finally received her happy ending after years of emotional turmoil.

It all went down following Alex (Justin Chambers) and Jo's (Camilla Luddington) disastrous wedding ceremony which didn't result in the couple exchanging vows. (They did so later on the ferry in a makeshift ceremony officiated by Meredith [Ellen Pompeo]. Aww!) Instead, April and Matthew (Justin Bruening) -- the guy she left at the altar five years ago -- were the ones to tie the knot after Matthew dropped a surprise proposal with Arizona, Sofia (Eva Ariel Binder) and Jackson (Jesse Williams) looking on.

Grey's Anatomy's Sarah Drew Begs Fans to Stop Bashing Co-Star Kelly McCreary

"I know that this is fast and crazy but I don't care. Because I loved who you were five years ago and I love you even more today. I don't ever wanna be without you again. I don't want to waste any more time," he told her. And with that, it was time for them to enjoy a (hopefully) blissful future together. April will start her new life away from Grey Sloan "doing God's work" by providing health care to homeless communities around Seattle.

Meanwhile, Arizona had already set the wheels in motion for her exit when she resigned from the hospital in order to get into teaching with her mentor Herman in New York. The major step also means Sofia gets to be closer to her other mom Callie (Sara Ramirez) who moved to the Big Apple with her girlfriend back in Season 12. And judging from Callie's friendly text to Arizona, she's just as excited as Arizona is about the big move.

"I can't wait to see you!" she wrote.

This marks a full-circle moment for the couple who did not part ways on good terms. When Callie tried to take Sofia with her to New York, Arizona fought and won a dragged-out custody battle in court. The exes have since made up and now that Arizona is headed her way, we're hoping they might also rekindle things romantically as well. Who knows.

So what did you think about April and Arizona's sendoffs?
