Game of Thrones Director Has a Poor Excuse for Jon's Pathetic Goodbye to Ghost

There were many things to be enraged about when it comes to the latest episode of Game of Thrones, "The Last of the Starks," but the one thing that has gotten the most blood boiling is in regards to a boy and his direwolf. For some unconceivable reason, Jon Snow (Kit Harington), the King of the North, has no time for man's best friend and says goodbye to his direwolf, Ghost, in maybe the weakest scene of the entire series.

Fearing that Ghost won't survive in the south, Jon decides to send his beloved furry friend away with Tormund (Kristofer Hivju) without so much a scratch on the head, a loving pet, or any sign of love and affection for the animal that was the first to notice he was coming back to life. It's like we don't even know you, Jon Snow.

Since social media loves Game of Thrones and also loves dogs, Twitter was quick to light up with tweets regarding this less than stellar situation. Ghost is a good boy, 14/10, would always keep him by our side in the wars to come.

Speaking to the moment, the episode's director, David Nutter, told Huffington Post UK that he believed the separation of Jon and Ghost spoke for itself, and keeping them apart was more of an emotional punch than anything else.

"Since the direwolves are kind of CG creations, we felt it best to keep it as simple as possible," said Nutter. "And I think that it played out much more powerfully that way. Keeping Ghost off to the side, I thought that played out better... Then he just walks off by himself, he turns to Ghost and has this moment with Ghost that I thought was very, very powerful."

Following on the heels of this week's coffee cup incident, fans aren't exactly excited to forgive Game of Thrones so quickly. Yes, the show is expensive to make, and yes, the direwolves are CGI and they're extra expensive, but it's not like the most difficult thing the show has ever showed us -- people ride dragons on this show, remember. One Twitter user even pointed out that the show literally just CGI'ed a giant killing Lyanna Mormont, but somehow Jon petting Ghost was out of the question? The series had two years to get this right, and it's a shame that a moment between a boy and his dog was swept under the rug so quickly.

On the bright side, Hivju has said that he'd be up for a Tormund and Ghost spin-off series, and 10/10 would watch. "Well, there's still two more episodes to go," he told Huffington Post UK. "We don't know if they survive."
