George R.R. Martin releases excerpt from upcoming Game of Thrones book

In an interview about the upcoming Game of Thrones book installment, The Winds of Winter, Martin revealed that HBO has working on another series, tentatively titled Captain Cosmos.

The concept: "At the dawn of the age of TV in 1949, a visionary young writer creates a science fiction series that tells stories no one else will dare to tell." It does not appear to be based on any of Martin's published work.

For those questioning why Martin would switch genres, he has plenty of experience with science fiction. He's been writing sci fi, fantasy and horror stories since he was 21. Also, in the 1980s and '90s, he was a writer and story consultant for The Twilight Zone, Beauty and the Beast and The Outer Limits.

Michael Cassutt will write the pilot for Captain Cosmos. Cassutt has a solid background in TV science fiction: He was a staff writer for the 1985 revival series of The Twilight Zone and wrote scripts for Farscape, Stargate SG-1, Andromeda, and Odyssey 5.

On the one hand, yay, more George R.R. Martin on our televisions! On the other hand: When will he have time to write more Game of Thrones???
