Elizabeth Warren and AOC's Recap of the Game of Thrones Finale Is Better Than the Actual Finale

All throughout Game of Thrones' final season, U.S. Senator (and presidential hopeful) Elizabeth Warren was very outspoken about being a fan of the HBO epic and touting her Team Targaryen allegiance. She even managed to merge that entertainment interest with her political viewpoints. In mid-April, Warren wrote an op-ed titled "The World Needs Fewer Cersei Lannisters" in which she compared the power disparity in America to that of Westeros and praised Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) for her commitment to breaking the wheel of power on the show. "She doesn't want to be a slave owner or a dictator," Warren wrote of the Mother of Dragons. "And she definitely doesn't want to become her murderous father."

Like many of us, Warren didn't expect the character to take such a sharp turn to become a city-slaughterer, and Warren admitted she was "so blue" about Dany breaking mad near the end. At the time, which was just before the finale aired, Warren said she wasn't sure who deserved to take the Iron Throne instead of Dany and certainly wasn't ready to give her official endorsement to any other candidates. However, in a cheeky new post-finale recap with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Warren has revealed that she became a Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) enthusiast at the last minute and hoped she would step up to rule all of the Seven Kingdoms instead of just the North.

"I was just really meh," Warren said to summarize reaction to the series' conclusion.

"I'm sad," agreed Ocasio-Cortez. "I'm disappointed about it. I feel like we were getting so close to having this ending with just women running the world. ... And then the last two episodes, it's like, 'Oh, they're too emotional. The end.' I was like, 'Ugh! This was written by men!"

Warren then went on to explain that she was also disappointed by the Mother of Dragons being rendered unfit for rule by the series and added, "I was even willing at the end to make a quick allegiance shift when Dany went nuts. So, I was over to Sansa. I was like Team Sansa. I will re-do my shirts, the whole thing." [Dracarys to all that Tagaryen sigil swag.]

However, instead of presenting herself as a potential candidate for leadership on the show as Warren might have liked, Sansa sat idly by while the Westerosi council chose her brother, Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright) to take the reign instead. Sansa did manage to negotiate (nay, demand) the independence of the North, so that she could become queen, but Warren thinks that wasn't a bold enough move for her to make.

"Then Sansa -- who is already queen of the North, thank you very much -- she walks away saying, 'And I'll still be queen of the North.' Come on, Sansa, go for the big one!" Warren exclaimed.
