Eddie Murphy is taking on a new eccentric screen persona -- only this time, his zany alter ego is one film fans might already know.

Netflix has revealed the first trailer for My Name Is Dolemite, which features Murphy as the real-life multi-hyphenate Rudy Ray Moore, who adopted the eponymous pimp persona to break into the film scene with his 1975 blaxploitation crime film Dolemite. As the trailer shows, the film follows Moore's attempts to break into show business with his jarring new look and attitude after failing to impress as himself for years.

The biopic is directed by Craig Brewer from a Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski script and also stars Keegan-Michael Key as screenwriter Jerry Jones, Wesley Snipes as Dolemite's actor-director D'Urville Martin, and Da'Vine Joy Randolph as actress Lady Reed. Mike Epps, Craig Robinson, Tituss Burgess, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Snoop Dogg, Ron Cephas Jones, Barry Shabaka Henley, Tip "T.I." Harris, and Tasha Smith also star in the pic.

My Name Is Dolemite will make its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival next month.
