When it comes to Emmy recognition, HBO's mortuary drama Six Feet Under is no stiff: The quirky soap scored a field-best 23 nominations this morning, including outstanding drama series. In that category it will compete with The West Wing, CSI, Law & Order and 24. On the comedy side, Everybody Loves Raymond, Sex and the City, Friends, Will & Grace and HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm will duke it out for best series. Speaking of Friends, the cast's decision to compete in the lead acting categories paid off with nominations for Jennifer Aniston, Matt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry. Other noteworthy nominees: The Shield's Michael Chiklis (lead actor in a drama); Alias's Jennifer Garner (lead actress in a drama); Malcolm in the Middle's Bryan Cranston (supporting actor in a comedy); Bernie Mac (lead comedy actor); and MTV's The Osbournes (non-fiction reality program). Among those missing in action: Gilmore Girl Lauren Graham, Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Sarah Michelle Gellar and the entire cast of ABC's new-and-improved NYPD Blue.
