CRITICAL THINKING

The Television Critics Association (which counts yours truly among its members) has released its nominations for the 2005 TCA Awards, and would you believe, the list looks a lot like TV Guide's Dream Emmy Ballot! Vying for the Program of the Year prize — the TCA's top honor — are freshman phenoms Desperate Housewives and Lost, as well as Arrested Development, Deadwood and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. Housewives and Lost are also up for best new program; they'll be facing stiff competition from House, Rescue Me

Housewives and Lost are also up for best new program; they'll be facing stiff competition from House, Rescue Me and Veronica Mars. Other highlights: Gilmore Girls landed a best comedy nod; Mars' Kristen Bell and Lost's Matthew Fox were singled out for best dramatic acting; and DH rivals Marcia Cross and Teri Hatcher will go head-to-head for individual achievement in comedy. (I'm sure that won't be awkward at all.) For a complete list of the nominees, click here.
