Blade II sunk its teeth into the box office this weekend, grossing $33.1 million — nearly double the opening-weekend intake of the 1998 original. The Wesley Snipes vampire sequel narrowly defeated animated feature Ice Age, which took in $31.1 million in its second week. A rerelease of the 1982 classic E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial came in third with a disappointing $15.1 million. Showtime and Resident Evil rounded out the top five, earning $8.2 and $6.6 million respectively.
