ABC may be looking to expand the black-ish small-screen universe with another spin-off of the popular sitcom.

The network is reportedly considering a prequel series centered on Rainbow (played in the original series by Tracee Ellis Ross). Per Deadline, young Bow would debut in a flashback episode of black-ish that could serve as a backdoor pilot for the potential spin-off.

No deals are finalized at this time, but the episode is expected to be set in the '80s or '90s during Rainbow's teen years, and black-ish's own co-executive producer Peter Saji is in talks to write the script. The episode is reportedly in the casting process, with plans to film in March.

If this prequel series does come to pass, it'd be the second black-ish spin-off, following grown-ish's debut on Freeform in early 2018. black-ish showrunner Kenya Barris would remain an executive producer on the hypothetical series, despite his recent deal with Netflix, although he may not be as hands on with the spin-off as he has been with the original series.

grown-ish was born of its own backdoor pilot back in black-ish's third season, which featured Zoey Johnson (Yara Shahidi) heading off to college at the fictional Cal U. The series was renewed for a third season in early February.

black-ish airs on ABC on Tuesdays at 9/8c.
