The Black Eyed Peas' manager was charged with assault after Perez Hilton accused group leader will.i.am and his entourage of assaulting him.
Liborio Molina, 36, turned himself in Monday morning and was charged with one count of assault, Toronto police constable Tony Vella told TVGuide.com. Molina, who goes by the nickname Polo, is due in court Aug. 5.
Vella said the victim in the incident, who he said he could not identify, sustained minor injuries.
The charge stems from a run-in that occurred around 3 am near a bar in downtown Toronto, Vella said. In a series of late-night posts on Twitter, Hilton claimed he was attacked by will.i.am and his guards at an after-party for the MuchMusic Awards, and begged followers to call the police. "I was assaulted by Will.I.Am of the Black Eyed Peas and his security guards," he wrote. "I am bleeding. Please, I need to file a police report. No joke."
After several more tweets for help, Hilton, whose real name is Mario Lavandeira, thanked followers and said police had arrived.
Will.i.am posted a video in which he gave his account of the night's events. He said that earlier in the evening, Hilton had "disrespected" group member Fergie when she asked Hilton what he had against the group. Will.i.am, whose real name is Will Adams, said he later approached Hilton at a nightspot called Cobra to ask him to stop being rude to the group. Hilton then called will.i.am a "faggot," which upset nearby fans, who began to "start some stuff with Perez Hilton," will.i.am said.
"I told you that I didn't like the fact that you disrespected us. It's cool to have your opinion, but dude, apparently you were bleeding outside the club. I was, like, next to you by a tree waiting for my car and instead of calling the police, you tweeted that I assaulted you," will.i.am said. "Sounds like somebody wants mad attention and is not really concerned with his health. I didn't hit you."
Hilton said in his own video that he used the anti-gay epiphet because he knew it would rile up the singer. Hilton said that after he left the club he was approached by Molina, whom he had met before, and that Molina "clocks me in the eye and punches me two or three times."
"I touched my eye and it was bleeding," he said. "I cannot wrap my brain — big or little as it may be — that a person who functions in the capacity of a manager, who's supposed to be a professional, would do something so unprofessional and illegal. And will.i.am — f--- you because you f------ lied!"
Hilton's rep, Ben Russo, told TVGuide.com that Hilton has no further comment for the time being.
TVGuide.com's calls and e-mails to will.i.am's rep were not immediately returned.
Tune in Saturday, June 27 at 8 pm/ET on the TV Guide Network to watch the MuchMusic Awards.
