AUDIENCES DINE ON MEXICAN

Hungry moviegoers preferred The Mexican to Hannibal over the weekend, as the mixed-reviewed comedy-drama starring Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts dethroned The Silence of the Lambs sequel as the top box-office draw. The Mexican grossed a respectable but not spectacular $20.3 million to place No. 1. The juvenile David Arquette comedy See Spot Run debuted in second, grossing $10.2 million. After three weeks at No. 1, Hannibal fell to No. 3, grossing $10.1 million. (Its 24-day stands at $142.8 million.) Rounding out the top five were Down to Earth (No. 4 with 8.0 million) and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (No. 5 with $4.9 million).
