The evidence is quite convincing
American Horror Story fans were not pleased when they realized that while Apocalypse would be bringing back the majority of our favorite Coven characters, there was one notable face left out of the mix: Angela Bassett's Marie Laveau. And you know what? It sounds like Bassett wasn't too pleased either. Last month, she said she was "a little bit in [her] feelings" that Marie didn't come back. But now it seems as though all is right in the world again and the Voodoo Queen of New Orleans will be making an appearance this season after all.
In the teaser for next Wednesday's season finale, we see Michael (Cody Fern), Mead (Kathy Bates) and Dinah (Adina Porter) in the outpost facing down two figures whose backs are to the camera. The blonde figure on the left is most likely Cordelia (Sarah Paulson), but the figure on the left -- the one new Voodoo Queen Dinah appears to be so shaken to see -- definitely bears an undeniable resemblance to Marie Laveau.

And before you say that we're jumping to conclusions here, Ryan Murphy posted a MASSIVE tease after the episode aired. The photo is an old image of Kathy Bates, Jessica Lange and Angela Bassett, who all starred in Coven together as Delphine LaLaurie, Fiona Goode and Marie Laveau, respectively. Murphy captioned the image: "They Know What They Need to Do."
Between the promo and this Instagram, it seems all but confirmed that Bassett will return in the finale. So far there have been no other hints that Lange or Bates would be reprising their Coven characters, but it's definitely not out of the question. Marie Laveau was last seen in Hell, where Papa Legba (Lance Reddick) was forcing her to torture Delphine for all eternity. If Cordelia and what remains of her coven were able to go into Hell and rescue Marie, it's likely they'd run into Delphine along the way.
American Horror Story: A Definitive Timeline
The latest episode also saw Cordelia grappling with her fears that she was becoming her mother, Fiona. If she does decide to take a dip into the underworld, maybe she'd attempt to visit Fiona to get some closure or (god help us) some motherly advice before she attempts to prevent the literal end of the world. Even if Lange weren't to reprise Fiona in the finale, the teaser for the episode, titled "Apocalypse Then," also reveals a brief glimpse of Lange as her Murder House character Constance Langdon, who already returned in the sixth episode of the season.
But really, as long as we get to see Bassett as Marie Laveau again we'll be quite happy. Delphine and Fiona would be extra sprinkles, but Marie is definitely the main course here.
American Horror Story: Apocalypse's finale airs Wednesday at 10/9c on FX.
