The Coven witches may have made their epic return in American Horror Story: Apocalypse but you may have noticed that one very important witch has not turned up this season.
We've gotten iconic Coven members like Madison Montgomery (Emma Roberts), Cordelia (Sarah Paulson) Queenie (Gabourey Sidibe), Myrtle Snow (Frances Conroy) Misty Day (Lily Rabe) and Zoe Benson (Taissa Farmiga), which is all well and good, but we've seen neither hide nor hair of one of the most famous witches of all time, Marie Laveau (Angela Bassett). If you were holding out hope that you might spot her this season, we wouldn't suggest you hold your breath thanks to Bassett's latest comments on the matter.
"I have [season eight of American Horror Story] on my DVR, but I haven't seen any of it just yet," Bassett told The Hollywood Reporter at Hollywood Confidential's "An Evening With Angela Bassett" earlier this week. "But I mean, come on. Where's Marie Laveau? I'm even a little bit in my feelings that Marie didn't come back."
Hm, it sure sounds like Bassett was not invited to return for this crossover season.
That sheds some new light on a since-deleted tweet from Ryan Murphy this summer in which he said, "All the witches are being asked back," when asked wether Taissa Farmiga would return to the series. If indeed all the witches were asked back, that would certainly include Marie Laveau, wouldn't it? What are the odds her invite just got lost in the mail?
American Horror Story: Apocalypse airs Wednesdays at 10/9c on FX.
