The funnyman also sang about his unexpected firing

For his first turn as Saturday Night Live's host this weekend, Adam Sandler called on a few fellow show alums to join him on-stage.

During his opening monologue, Sandler belted about how he was unceremoniously axed from the cast of the sketch comedy series back in 1995, singing, "I was fired, I was fired, I was fired so sad to tell/ Well, I never saw it coming, I got fired from SNL/ Between seasons I heard a nasty rumor that I was getting the sack/ I tried to call Lorne Michaels, but he never called me back." He also remembered calling co-star Chris Farley -- whom Sandler also paid musical tribute to later on in the show -- and learning that he, too, had been let go at the same time.

Sandler's song was then interrupted as Chris Rock, who came to lament his own experience being canned from the program two years prior as he pitched in with his own verse, singing, "I got fired, I was fired, I was fired by NBC/ Then I went on In Living Color, three weeks later they took it off TV."

Of course, it wasn't just fired funny people who came along to show some support for Sandler during his big return to SNL; in a family reunion-style sketch making light of Sandler's sourcing for his most bizarre screen characters, Kristen Wiig and Jimmy Fallon jumped in to portray his zany parents.

Other highlights of Sandler's newest stint on SNL include his reprisal of the Opera Man for "Weekend Update," his skit about a very personal father-son conversation about ED meds, his skit about a War Zone report gone wrong thanks to some unfortunate filters, and a faux infomercial about a tragic tour guide who can't promise that his guests will love everything they see.

Saturday Night Live airs live at 11:30/10:30c on NBC.
