ABC Gives Charles Gibson a Primary Time Showcase

Here's a novel idea for strike programming: news. ABC has scheduled for Tuesday prime time a half-hour special with World News anchor Charles Gibson reporting on the results of the New Hampshire primary. To accomodate the move, the network will pull an episode of Just for Laughs that was scheduled for the 8:30 slot. ABC may have been emboldened to try some special news coverage after seeing the ratings it scored Saturday for coverage of the Democratic debate — moderated by Gibson — which scored 9.4 million viewers and a 2.3 rating/6 share among 18- to 49 year-olds. If it whad been a sitcom, those numbers would have merited a full-season pickup. — Stephen BattaglioRelated:• Cheers & Jeers casts its vote for ABC's decision
