Mikami is a student radical with heroes ranging from Adolf Hitler to Leon Trotsky to Fidel Castro. He, too, wishes to achieve dictatorial power as these men did. At summer's end he and girl friend Honoo are invited by Yamashita, heir to a fortune, to a seashore estate for sailing and a

party. Iwashita, one of the partygoers, hears that her father killed himself after being caught in a business scandal with political ramifications. Mikami meets Ito at a bar and in a political discussion announces he would like to kill the wealthy classes and take over their place. He proposes

that Ito should pay money to a college girl for sexual favors only to learn that Takachiho, the bartender, already is Ito's mistress. After failing to help his fellow political comrade Kosaka get a job with Yamashita, Mikami becomes attracted to Iwashita. She has been humiliated by the scandal,

which had come as a result of her host's family. Mikami has a boxer friend attack the caddish fiance of Iwashita's sister. Later Mikami is expelled from his political group for his too radical beliefs, so he drowns his sorrows at various parties thrown by rich friends. As protests over US and

Japanese security pacts mount, Mikami decides that these demonstrations are pointless and decides to take direct action. He buys material to make dynamite and tells the now pregnant Honoo he's too busy for her. When leaving his apartment, though, Mikami is met by the police who charge him for the

assault he arranged and thus thwart his plans to use the explosives. A close retelling of director Shinoda's PUNISHMENT ISLAND, wherein the hero is stripped of one illusion after another, leaving him with nothing.
