Three rowdy western lads--Blackmer, Hatton, and Kohler--ride back to the hills after terrorizing the local town and happen upon the hapless Lee, a visiting Easterner, alone at her brother's home. The libidinous three prepare to ravish the unfortunate girl, but she has the wit to set them

against one another. Promising Blackmer that she will offer him any reward he wishes if he will save her from his salacious sidekicks, she manages to elicit his aid. He pays one companion money in return for his one-third interest in Lee and wounds the other in a duel. Lee honors the bargain and

marries Blackmer, who then tries his best to gain her affection. Ultimately, East and West manage to reach an accord. Filmed in two-color Technicolor in the Mount Whitney region of California. The lovely Lee reportedly had a nervous breakdown following the filming--and small wonder, considering

her character's plight. An earlier adaptation of author Moody's play was filmed as THE GREAT DIVIDE in 1929.
