This old standard expatriate drama features a weak-willed youngster among the Britons who are going to seed in the damp heat of a West African rubber plantation, boozing and consorting with native girls. In this polemic against the evils of miscegenation, young English expatriate Evans

initially attempts to bring civilization to the bush by hanging curtains in his hovel and keeping a stiff upper lip while the bibulous doctor, Smith, wonders how long the lad can last. Caustic plantation manager Faber taunts the boy who, in desperation, turns to sexy half-caste Rhouma. Striving to

maintain a civilized veneer, Evans proposes marriage to the semi-savage girl. In the theatrical lexicon of the early 1900s, half a caste was worse than none, so the libidinous lady prepares to poison her new husband. Caught in the act by Faber, she is forced to drink the fatal potion herself.

Broken in mind and spirit, young Evans is shipped homeward, the WHITE CARGO of the title. The Hollywood version of 1942 was better. The project had originally been scheduled for Hollywood production, but a zealous Hays Office forced it overseas.
