Enjoyable and somewhat interesting look at the formative years of high school has Cooper as a lad struggling with grades and with his natural inclination to get into hot water. The added pressure of a dad who expects his son to match his own fine performance at Princeton doesn't make

things any easier for Cooper. The youth is finally given a chance to prove what he is made of and comes out with shining colors. It was said during the filming of this picture that the writing team of Wilder and Brackett had little respect for producer-director Reed. Consequently, when they saw

which way Reed was taking the film, they tried to get their names removed from the credits, without success. Ironically, WHAT A LIFE took off and developed into the popular Henry Aldrich series which, while never to become the fabulous grosser of the somewhat similarly themed Andy Hardy pictures,

still remains to this day a nostalgic touchstone for millions of moviegoers.
