The titled Young, who has evaded his grandmother's frequent importunities that he marry (he pairs off her many candidates with his male friends), finally succumbs to the charms of a commoner. His choice is the beautiful Oberon--his mother's secretary--who, without her glasses, proves to

be perfectly smashing. This pleasant comedy scores a number of historical firsts. It is the first production to be made by producer-director Alexander Korda's own independent company, London Film Productions, Ltd.; Korda had settled in England only the year previously, where he had directed a film

for British Paramount, after successes in Hollywood and in France. His company was to become one of the most successful in Europe, employing talented directors such as Orson Welles, Carol Reed, and Anthony Asquith. This was actress Oberon's first featured role; she had just been "discovered" by

her future husband, Korda, after playing a number of bit parts using the name Estelle Thompson. Stage actress Barrie also had her first featured film role here, as did Gardner, future wife of the producer-director's brother (also a well-known director), Zoltan Korda. London Film had a record of

creative nepotism which more than matched anything Hollywood had to offer; Alexander Korda's talented designer brother Vincent did well here, as he did on many other films made by his brothers.
