This Japanese youth-oriented movie deals with the class differences between full-time high-school day students (generally children of the moneyed) and the less affluent night students (who must work for their keep). Unseen by one another, they occupy the same school desks at different

times of day. Female day student Namikawa leaves a note for her lower-class counterpart, whom she has never met. Offended by what he believes to be a rich girl's condescension, night student Onogawa returns her kindness with a gross obscenity. This starts the equivalent of a night-and-day war,

which ultimately brings the day side in intimate contact with the night side, seduction and rape reducing the alienation of the two camps. The two most aggressive students finally attain satisfaction through a motorcycle race.
