Cowardly sergeant Russel stays behind and watches as his men bravely storm a communist bunker in the midst of the Korean conflict. Most of the men are killed, but the rest succeed in capturing the stronghold--while Russel takes all the credit (he expects a medal), claiming that the surviving soldiers are all cowards. One of his superior officers suspects the truth, but Russel kills the man to ensure his silence. Russel goes even further to plant his name in military history; he leads his men on a slaughter of communist troops who have honored a cease-fire and disarmed themselves. Eventually the communists have had enough of this nonsense, and they kill Russel.
