Charming South Seas musical comedy starring Crosby as a public relations man for a pineapple conglomerate who is given the task of accompanying contest winner Ross on a tour of the Hawaiian Islands. Ross insists on bringing her friend Raye along, so Crosby drafts his goofy pal Burns to

come along as another escort. Crosby's heart really isn't in his work, and Ross soon becomes bored and books passage to return to the mainland. This development sends the pineapple executives into a frenzy, and Crosby is forced to take drastic measures to get Ross to stay. He hires a group of

local natives led by Quinn to "kidnap" the foursome. Quinn and his men pretend to be after a sacred jewel and they capture the group and accuse them of possessing it. Instead of being scared by their predicament, Ross begins to develop romantic feelings for Crosby, who leads them through their

"escape." Eventually Ross learns that the whole adventure was just a trick, and she angrily prepares to leave the islands. At this point Crosby discovers that he has fallen in love with her and he tries a number of tricks to prevent her departure. Luckily, Raye and Burns have also fallen in love

and announce their wedding. This news softens Ross and she says yes to Crosby's marriage proposal. The song "Sweet Leilani" won an Oscar for its author Harry Owens. Other songs include: "Sweet Is the Word for You," "In a Little Hula Heaven," "Blue Hawaii," "Okolehao," and "Nani Ona Pua" (Ralph
