Evel Knievel stars as Evel Knievel in a film about Evel Knievel. Nothing more need be said, as he shows that he should definitely stick to motorcycles and not give up one successful career to make an embarrassment of himself in movies. An inane plot has this American hero of the absurd the center of Nielson's scheme to use Knievel's trip to Mexico as a way to smuggle cocaine into the United States. Neilson's plans require that Knievel turn up dead, which of course he doesn't because the scriptwriter designed a contrived situation where Gortner takes his place and is killed instead. An aura of sadness covers this entire production as we witness the level to which a great actor and entertainer like Gene Kelly stooped in order to get work. This was the second film about the bucking biker; the first, EVEL KNIEVEL (1972), featured George Hamilton as Knievel. Hamilton was better.
