The life and times of Johann Strauss the elder and his final deference to his son, Johann Jr. English actor Walbrook returned to his native Vienna to play the famed waltz-king who, while leading a band in a restaurant, develops a new beat. With the help of his milliner mistress Harell,

who invents some dance steps to go with his compositions, Walbrook becomes the toast of Vienna. Newly wealthy, he deserts wife Stepanek and his three children and tours Europe with Harell. On his return, years later, he discovers that his now-grown son, Johann Jr., has achieved prominence as a

composer, which irritates the irascible old man. A deathbed reconciliation is effected after Walbrook hears his boy's music. Punctuated with musical compositions of the two Strausses. Released in Europe in 1951.
